Windows Server 2008 x64 : Getting a x86 Print Driver to work when it won’t!
Just had ‘one of those days’ when even the simplest of life’s hiccoughs takes an age to resolve.
This time it was with a Windows printer driver. I was faced with installing an x86 printer driver for sharing from a x64 Print Server on Microsoft Windows Server 2008If you get an error when trying to install x86 print driver to a x64 server, and you get asked for the Windows Install media, looking for ntprint.inf try this:
- Install the manufacturers x64 print driver on the x64 server and set the printer up
- Share the printer
- Install the manufacturers x86 print driver on a x86 server or workstation (don’t need to setup a printer, just install the drivers)
- On the x86 server, openinstall the shared printer x64_serverPrinterShareName
- When the printer queue dialog opens, click PRINTER > PROPERTIES
- Click on the SHARING tab and click ADDITIONAL DRIVERS
- Select the x86 option and click OK
- the x86 drivers should now be copied to the x64 server
